I had the most terrifying experience of my life in Yellowstone. I am not sure where to post it so I will tell it here. I am looking for feedback if possible, as it is terrifying to hear in the comments that this is normal. Although I knew that it had consequences, I never thought anything like this would happen to me. Next I will do more research before approaching thermal waters, I value my life and the lives of my family and friends.

It happened on Saturday. I'm not sure exactly where we were because I couldn't understand much with the accent of the park ranger, but we were at a location called "Grand Prismatic". We stopped to rest and look at the thermal waters that were nearby because they were too beautiful. I didn't know that thermal waters were so dangerous.
As I approached the thermal waters I realized that I was walking on a path of hard mud. Suddenly when I was close my feet sank and the mud started to get hot. At first I tried to get out but when I sank I realized that I was stuck and that I couldn't get out.
I panicked because I was starting to burn my legs and the mud was getting so hot that I could smell my skin burning. I screamed for help without stopping until a park ranger approached who threw me a rope that I used to get out of there. He scolded me for approaching the thermal waters and told me that I could have burned myself alive or died of a heart attack from the shock of the burn. He recommended that I do more research next time so I wouldn't have a fatal accident. I didn't know that the thermal waters were so dangerous, so for a moment I thought I was going to die. I love hot springs but after this I will be more careful and will not approach any thermal waters again.
Has it happened to you?
