Why do people go the extra mile to put shit in the recycling bin? You’re gonna go from your house to your car, pull all the bags of trash out of the trunk, replace them with the recycling, and go all the way to the dump knowing that you could’ve saved your time by just throwing it in the trash?

I understand bringing it to your city’s recycling center, but I see so many people putting the recycling bin IN THE LITERAL TRASH DUMP. And they’re not the only ones doing it.

I get recycling, I really do. But it feels like we all know deep down that most of it doesn’t actually get recycled, and we’re just going through the motions of doing it.

EDIT: thank you all for the awards. I’m glad we could have a good discussion in the comments without it turning too heated. I agree with a lot of y’all that I should’ve been more clear about the situation. I ended up going through the recycling afterwards just to see what was in there and what I found was plastic and Styrofoam and straws and random metal shit. I understand that most of y’all do indeed separate your recycling. But this whole thing started with my confusion as to why someone would go through the trouble to put that in the recycling instead of the trash bin. Thanks again, y’all.
