Why do you always run into someone you know?

This has happened countless times for me and it feels like a glitch when I run into people I know when I am out and about.

My mom has an uncle that has lived in Thailand for over 20 years and our family visited him there once. Me, my brother and my cousin decided to leave the restaurant and walk down the street looking for shops. We were stopped at a red light waiting for traffic to die down so we could cross the street. There were about 10 other people stopped at the light and one of the people in the group was my moms uncle. He was surprised we were there because he had no idea we were going to be in Thailand at the time. It was an extremely unlikely coincidence because this was the first time me, my brother and my cousin had ever left his side during that vacation and it just so happened that my moms uncle was walking down the same street we were at the exact same time.

This is just one example but stuff like this happens all the time. I have a friend who lives in one part of this city and I live in another. We dont carpool or drive together so it makes it extremely unlikely we will ever be in the same part of this city at the same time. He knows this too and we pretty much stopped calculating the odds of this happening because it doesnt even matter anymore. It feels like the universe is trying to prove a point about how this pattern of running into people you know is impossible for it to happen as often as it does.
