The world's most common "folk tale" is a recording of the last words of everyone you've ever met

In my world's history, a long time ago, a lot of people left the land they were born in to travel elsewhere in the world. They didn't come back very often, and so they were forgotten over time. Eventually, it became common for people to not see their friends or family again after a certain point in their lives. When people died, they would often be buried in cemeteries far from where they were from, so that their loved ones could bury them in a place that they themselves wanted to be buried in, if they had one.

Over time, this led to a common tradition. When someone died, the person or people closest to them would record a message that was to be sent to anyone they had ever met. This message could be anything - a simple hello and goodbye, a funny anecdote about a time the two of you shared, or even a confession they never got the chance to make. These messages were called "Legacies", and they were given out to anyone who wanted one.

Over time, these Legacies became the most common form of folklore in the world. People would share them with one another, and sometimes even use them to tell stories. These stories became known as "Folk Tales", and they spread throughout the world.

I have often heard people say that the most common "Folk Tale" is a recording of the last words of everyone you've ever met. They will say that the most common one they hear is "I love you", but they will then go on to talk about other Legacies they've heard, often from people they never met.

In my opinion, this is a very sad tradition. I think it is a reminder that we are all alone in the world, and that no matter how many people we meet in our lives, we will all die alone.
