What do you think would happen if a person from the past were transported into the present day? I'm not asking what they'd do or how they'd react, just what would happen to them, how would they survive, how would they not die instantly. I mean, we have a lot of people from the past living among us today, but they're the ones who were born after the dawn of civilization and who's lifespan spanned across the centuries. There's a lot of people like that, and I'd wager that there are people from the 1800s and even the 1900s living among us today. People like George Bernard Shaw, for example. But I think the idea of a person from the very early ages of humanity surviving the transition to the present day is not so much a thought experiment, as it is a hypothetical event that we have to be prepared to deal with in the future.

For example, let's say we meet a man from the age of Cro-Magnon. The first humans who developed the capacity for language and culture. The first humans who made art, who made tools out of stone. They were the ones who took the first steps out of Africa, into Europe, and eventually into other parts of the world. The only humans alive at the time were hunter-gatherers, who had no more technology than stone tools. Let's say we encounter a man who was born in the region of Europe that is now France, in the year 60,000 BC. We meet him somewhere in Europe, let's say somewhere in Germany, in the year 2023 AD. The first thing that we have to deal with is that his body would have to be adapted to life in the present day, or vice versa. If we find him in a natural environment, then the problem would be that the environment would be different than the one he is accustomed to, and he would need to be given food, clothing, shelter, and other things that would help him survive in that environment. But if we bring him into our modern world, then he would need to be adapted to our environment. His body would not be able to handle the air quality, or the food we eat, and he would not be able to adapt to our social norms. So, he would have to be given medication or some other kind of treatment that would help him adapt to the new environment.

What other things do you think would happen to this person? Would he be able to communicate with us? Would we be able to understand what he was trying to say? What would happen to him if he were to be placed into a modern hospital? Would we have to teach him how to read and write, and how to use technology? Would he be able to learn new things, or would he just be a burden on society?

For the sake of this example, let's say that we have a person who has been placed into a modern hospital, with all of the necessary treatments and medications to help him survive in the present day. Let's say that he has been given clothes, food, and shelter. Let's say that he has been placed into a room that is climate-controlled, and that he has access to all of the modern amenities that a hospital has to offer, such as doctors, nurses, beds, toilets, showers, and sinks. Let's say that he has been given a tablet and a headset that allows him to communicate with the doctors and nurses who are taking care of him. Let's say that he has been given a pair of glasses, because his eyesight is not as good as it used to be, and that he has been given a cane, because his legs are not as strong as they used to be.

If this person were to be given the opportunity to learn new things, and if he were to be able to communicate with us, what do you think would happen next? Would he be able to learn how to read and write, or would he just be able to communicate verbally? Would he be able to learn how to use technology, such as a computer or a smartphone? Would he be able to learn new things, or would he just be a burden on society?

Again, I'm not asking what he would do or how he would react, I'm asking what would happen to him, how would he survive, how would he not die instantly.
