Do your characters have belly buttons? Probably not, here’s why

Yes, I know, another body realism post, but bear with me here.<br><br>A character can have *any* body type or lack of body entirely. But they still need to have a navel. Why? Because it’s a remnant of when we were still developing in the womb. Even in adulthood, it continues to grow back. Even if the skin tears off, it will grow back. You can’t sew it closed and have it stay that way. <br><br>It’s easy to forget about because we’re not used to seeing naked people regularly in media. But that’s not the point. The point is that it’s a biological necessity that no species could ever evolve to avoid, so even in a completely sci-fi or fantasy setting, it would still exist. <br><br>I’m not saying that a species can’t evolve to not need it, or have a different form of it. Just that it would likely never happen, because it’s not a part of the body that is easily evolved out of existence.
