This is a throwaway account because I am not sure what I'm doing. I'm working on a sci-fi story. I'm a huge fan of Dune, so that's the genre I'm trying to emulate.

In my world, humanity is the only sentient species in the galaxy. There's a planet called Xylophia-IV which has this one resource that is needed to power human civilization. This planet is only habitable for a certain species of jellyfish like creature. The jellyfish have a symbiotic relationship with these plants, so the jellyfish have these "roots" that dig deep into the ground and they have tentacles that they use to collect the sunlight. These roots are like giant plant-like roots and they are what are used to collect the Xylophia. The jellyfish also have what appears to be a central nervous system but it's actually the network of roots that act as their brain. If they're injured, their roots can heal themselves, so their jellyfish bodies are free to move about as they please.

I also have another planet called Nalalia. This planet is covered in water. The people of Nalalia are mostly aquatic, and their skin glistens. They have this ability called "the touch". They can use their touch to control objects and they have these special organs in the center of their foreheads. The people of Nalalia are peaceful, and they don't have any form of war. They also don't have any form of money. They share all of the resources of Nalalia. They have an endless supply of water and food. Their society is a matriarchy. They have no concept of ownership and they live in large family units.

I have another planet called Khaos. Khaos is the only place in the galaxy where the Xylophia can be mined. The people of Khaos have a patriarchal society. They are very aggressive. They have wars often and they have no concept of peace. They also don't have any form of money. Instead they have something called "bloodpoints" that are earned when someone kills someone. The bloodpoints are used to buy things and services. They also have no concept of ownership and live in large family units. They are all born with gills.

The people of Khaos steal Xylophia from Xylophia-IV. The jellyfish go through a life cycle that takes about a thousand years. They grow a new set of roots and tentacles every twenty years. When they do this, the Xylophia that is in the roots is transferred to the new roots, so they only produce Xylophia when they are mature and their roots are the size of a large tree. The jellyfish go through about twenty generations of their young before they reach this age, and the Xylophia that they collect can only sustain humanity for about two years. So every two years the people of Khaos must steal Xylophia from Xylophia-IV.

This is the basic premise for my world. Any questions or observations would be greatly appreciated.
