My son's school is teaching creationism. I am not happy.

I am a 33 year old black woman currently studying to be a doctor. I am unapologetically a secular atheist, and very proud of it. I believe that evolution is a scientific fact, and that creationism should not be taught in any way, shape, or form. It goes against everything that science stands for.

Last night, I picked up my 6 year old son from school. He had a book bag full of work across every subject, but the thing that caught my attention was a drawing of Adam and Eve, along with the words "Day 1: God creates man and woman" written across the top.

I was shocked. I had always trusted this school, but now I am not so sure. How can they teach creationism in a school that is funded by tax payers like me? If I opt out of my son having religion taught in school, will they respect that decision? Will they even allow me to do that? I am so angry and depressed right now. Does anyone have any advice for me?
