What is your take on the term "Gypsy"? Why is it considered offensive?

I've never been one for terminology that is considered derogatory towards a group of people, but for some reason the term Gypsy doesn't bother me for some reason.<br><br>However, I've seen several posts online stating that the term is considered offensive and that Romani is the preferred term instead. Why is this? Is it a term that was used in the past to mock or belittle the group of people? I'm curious to learn more.
