I’ve been stuck in this airport for 12 hours. How common is this, and what are my options?

I landed in Rome on Saturday evening (Sept 14) after a long flight. It was already 10:30 PM local time and my hotel was a 30-minute drive away. Since I was tired from my journey, I decided to stay at the airport overnight. I booked a hotel connected to the airport through the official website.<br><br>The hotel stay went well, and I woke up feeling refreshed on Sunday (Sept 15). I grabbed something to eat for breakfast at the airport, and then I headed to the gate to check in for my flight. That’s when the nightmare began.<br><br>The agent at the check-in desk told me that my flight was delayed until Monday. I was stunned and asked for clarification. She said, “Unfortunately, your flight is now on Monday. The flight is fully booked, and we cannot move you to an earlier flight because there are no seats available.”<br><br>I tried to stay calm and asked if there was any way to book an earlier flight. She replied, “Sorry, we cannot change your flight. We only manage your flight, and we cannot assist with booking another flight. You need to call your airline directly to change your flight.”<br><br>I was confused. If the flight is fully booked, wouldn’t the airline be responsible for providing a solution or assistance? I pressed her for further help, but she kept repeating that they only managed the flight and not the airline.<br><br>I decided to contact my airline directly. I called their customer service number, but they just referred me back to the airport’s customer service. Then I tried to book another flight for the next day, but it was completely sold out.<br><br>As the day went on, more flights were cancelled, and the airport became increasingly chaotic. It was clear that I wouldn’t be able to fly out on Monday either.<br><br>At this point, I’m stuck at the airport for 12 hours. I’m extremely frustrated, and I don’t know what my options are. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
