I’ve traveled to over 100 countries and I’ve never had my bag lost, but it almost happened yesterday in Turkey.

I’ve traveled extensively for work and I’ve never had issues with my bags. I always make sure I see my bag come out on the belt and never assume it will be there at the baggage claim. My strategy is to watch my bag come out as the first or second bag on the belt. If it is one of the last few bags, then it has not made it onto the plane. This has saved me a ton of headaches in airports.

Yesterday, I got off the plane in Istanbul, and I watched my luggage come out as one of the first few bags. When I went to grab my bag, it wasn’t there. I checked the belt again, and it still wasn’t there. I called Turkish Airlines, but there were no reports of lost bags for my flight. I had to spend the night in Istanbul, and Turkish Airlines said I could pick up my bag once I reached my destination in Dubai. I ended up going to the lost luggage office at the airport, and after some waiting and form filling, I got my bag back. I’m guessing it somehow fell off the plane, or it never made it onto the plane, but it definitely wasn’t in baggage claim.

TLDR; I never get my luggage lost, but it almost happened to me yesterday in Turkey.
