How is the U.S. so stupid?

I’m European and just had my third time in the U.S. and it’s getting worse every time.

First of all I’m not a Democrat or Republican. I saw how stupid all Germans became during the 30’s and I try to stay informed and independent.

But it’s hard to understand Americans these days.

I’m always pro American. Best country, best people, best culture, best history. But I’m also witness how the U.S. slowly becomes stupid.

1. Trump. Okay, other countries also had morons as leaders. But I never thought it will happen in the U.S. You should expect more from the Americans. Trump is destroying the image of the U.S.

2. Science. Most Americans don’t believe in science and critical thinking anymore. Again something that I never expected from the Americans. I always thought you were smarter and open-minded than that. You should be the ones to set the standards in science.

3. Masks. Okay, Americans aren’t the only ones not taking COVID seriously, but I didn’t expect so many to act like the virus doesn’t even exist anymore.

4. Politics. Americans against Americans. Okay, we also have parties and sometimes things gets rough in Germany, but it never came to what it comes to in the U.S. It’s not normal that the government is actively making rules and policies that only benefit them and make a whole side suffer. And it’s not normal how they tolerate violence and the violence they commit (see Trump) .

5. History. I always loved the U.S. for being humble and giving respect to other nations and cultures. But it’s getting worse how Americans don’t want to learn from other nations anymore. And how they live in complete ignorance. As if they think they discovered everything and they have no history. You could be the bridge of culture and are becoming the opposite.

6. Critical thinking. It seems that Americans don’t think anymore. Most people don’t even want to discuss things. If you present information, they will just ignore it or say you’re a liar. They’ll stick to their narrative no matter what you say.

7. American culture. It was always great to explore cities in the U.S. Every city has its own charm. Now cities are the problem. They’re rotten and filthy. It’s not safe. Even wealthy cities like Beverly Hills. Cities used to be the pride of the U.S. Now they are the problem. (I know part of the problem is the drug problem)

8. Foreign policy. Americans always talked about the importance of allies and having friends from all around the world. They promised to protect little nations like my country. They promised to act as a responsible global superpower. They promised to help lead the world to peace and prosperity. I’ve never heard a country being so humble. Now they want to leave WHO and they’re acting like they don’t want friends anymore. They don’t want to help anyone. They don’t want to be a part of the UN. The U.S. was a beacon of hope for small nations. Now they don’t see the value of it.

I know this is a new phenomenon in the U.S. Other countries dealt with it already. But I never thought it would happen to the Americans.

How does it feel to live in the U.S. These days?
