Why is travel so popular?

I've been thinking a lot about why travel is so popular, and I have come to some conclusions. Here's a few thoughts on the matter.

**Escape**

* Travel gives us a chance to escape the normalcy of our lives, to experience something other than what we're used to, to feel something different.

* This could be related to the fact that most of us are just too bored. We work Monday to Friday, go home and watch Netflix all weekend, eat the same food every day. And there's nothing wrong with that, but for many of us, we just want something more.

* I've talked to a lot of people who are in their early 30s and they feel like they've just been stuck in a routine since they started their first real job after high school. And they feel like they've accomplished nothing, and that their life is just so monotonous.

**Social Media**

* Social media plays a big part in our desire to travel. Instagramming our holidays and eating breakfast in front of a view. And when we aren't on holiday, we just want to feel like we are.

* Social media also makes us want things we don't really need, just because it looks nice. This is related to the fact that we spend a lot of time comparing ourselves to others, which just makes us want more.

**Economic Factors**

* I think a lot of us in the Western world are just too comfortable, we have too much. And when we have too much, we just want more. This is known as the hedonic treadmill. We just don't feel satisfied with our lives anymore.

* And on top of that, we're also a lot more connected to other cultures than ever before, and we just want to experience it all for ourselves.

* This could be linked to the fact that the younger generations have more disposable income than ever before. Gen Z and millennials have grown up with social media, and the ability to buy anything they want with the click of a button. And this makes us want things more.

**Mental Health**

* Travel can also be a great way to escape our problems, and clear our heads. Whether it be from work or relationships or whatever it is. We just want to leave it all behind for a bit.

* And I think we're just more aware of our mental health than we've ever been. And we know that we don't want to suffer with it forever. We want a cure, or a break from it at least.

So yeah, that's my thoughts on the matter. What do you guys think? Am I on the right track, or am I completely wrong?
