I'm in the military, and I was deployed to a country where English is widely spoken. We're not supposed to share our locations, so I do not know the actual name of this country. Here's where I was, and what I saw.

I've been deployed for 3 months now, and I'm scheduled to return home in 1 month. This was my second time deployed. I was deployed to the Middle East in 2021. I've also deployed to South America, and I'm currently in Central America.

I've been deployed to places where the primary language spoken isn't English, but this place is different. The locals can speak English fluently, and some can even speak American slang like "yo", and "bro". There's McDonalds, Starbucks, Burger King, and Chick-fil-A. I don't know if this place is a 1-star, 5-star country, or somewhere in between, but it seems like everyone has money here.

We stay in what appears to be a 5-star hotel. I have my own room with a private bathroom, a bed, a desk, a closet, and a TV. We have a gym, a restaurant, a bar, a pool, a steam room, and a place to shower. It costs the military tens of thousands of dollars a day to stay here.

We're not allowed to leave the compound, so we have to stay on base. There's a place where we can eat like 3 meals a day. The food is amazing. I've had pizza, burgers, fried chicken, and salad. We have our own bar on the base, and we can buy drinks like $4 beers, $4 cokes, $2 water, and $1.50 orange juice.

We have our own gym on base. It's huge. It has like 3 floors. We can work out any time of day, and shower off in the steam room afterwards.

It costs a lot to be deployed here. I make about $8000 a month, but after expenses, I take home about $7000. The military pays my bills in advance for me, and gives me $1000 a month for food. They also give me $500 a month for other expenses, and $500 a month to send home to my family.

I'm not sure where this country is. I don't think it's in South America, Central America, or North America. I don't think it's in the Middle East either, because we don't have to worry about being shot at here. It's not Asia because we don't have to wear masks or get tested for COVID-19. It also can't be Europe, Australia, or Africa, because we're clearly in a tropical environment. I'm going to guess that it's in India, but I'm not sure.

I've been deployed twice. Both times I've been deployed to countries that are considered 3rd world. This place is different. I'm not sure what to say, because this place seems like a first-world country, but the locals seem poor. It doesn't make sense to me.

I'm currently in the military, and I have 10 years left. I don't know if I want to deploy again after I get out, because deploying is hard on my body. I get sick a lot, and I'm currently on antibiotics. My doctor says that I won't be deployable much longer. It sucks, because I love deploying. Deploying is a great experience. You get to see different parts of the world, and you get to meet new people. You also get hazard pay, which is like 10% extra money on top of your regular paycheck.
