What's the deal with how all tourists (me included) in Italy insist on taking pics of EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING?

I'm Italian. I hate tourists, I hate what they do to our country, I hate what they represent, but here in Italy we're used to having tourists come in and respect our culture and history, take photos of the things they're not allowed to, or just generally being disrespectful in general.

I was in Naples last week and the whole city is filled with tourists right now and I get that it's a beautiful city and there are a ton of Instagrammable locations, but the amount of people that are just taking pics of absolutely everything and anything is ridiculous.

The other day I saw a guy take a photo of a street sign that said "this road is closed". I saw a lady take a photo of the words "no smoking" on a sign, I saw two teenage girls take photos of the words "no photography" on a sign.

I saw a guy take a photo of a phone box on the street, I saw a couple take photos of a random alleyway, I saw a group of people take photos of a police car just sitting there, and the list goes on.

I'm not even talking about people taking pics of famous landmarks or whatever, I mean people just taking pictures of the most mundane things on the street.

What is it that makes people feel the need to document everything with their phone? Why do they feel the need to share it on social media? Do they think that people are going to be interested in a random street sign or alleyway?

I don't get it, and honestly as a local it makes me so mad that these people are coming and treating my home like a playground.
