We’ve been in isolation since last March and this is our lifeline to the outside world. I work for a US airline and we have been flying these flights almost daily since then.

We are kept separate from the rest of the airline and have to undergo multiple tests and quarantines before we can fly these flights. We drive to the airport in a bubble group, are temperature checked and have our travel documents checked. Once we enter the airport we are by ourselves and go to the designated area for these flights. We are given masks, gloves, hand sanitizer and our temp is checked again every day.

We are not allowed to leave the designated area unless we need to use the bathroom, even to go through security, we used to but not anymore.

Each time we arrive to the destination city we are allowed to leave the aircraft and are given a fresh set of masks and sanitizer. We are allowed to go to the hotel, have some food and bathroom access, the hotels are paid for by the CDC. We are spread out to different hotels and have to make sure we’re not too close to each other. We have to stay 6ft from each other at all times.

Each day we are tested and have to submit our location to prove we are where we said we were.

The aircraft is completely sanitized before and after each flight.

We wear gloves when handling any luggage, our own sanitizer and carry our own sanitizer wipes for our hands after we handle the bags. We are allowed to take them with us.

We have extra air purifiers put into the aircraft that push out hydrogen peroxide to kill the coronavirus.

We are given N95 masks, but we have to switch them out every 8 hours.

Each customer is given a packet with a mask, sanitizer and wipes. We hand out a sanitizer wipe to each customer before they board so they can sanitize their hands right after they leave their luggage in the overhead compartment.

We are given extra sanitizer and are allowed to hand it out to customers if they ask. We also bring our own and give it out if they want it, this has to be done after we hand them their snack and drink.

We keep the overhead vents above each row of seats turned on, this helps spread the air around, instead of it just being blow out one ventilation piece.

We are told to clean anything customers touch, the bathroom handle, flush handles, anything that gets touched.

We wear our gloves when we pass out snacks and drinks, but we take them off when we eat. We have our own utensils and food bag that we eat out of. We eat quick so we don’t have to take off our gloves again.

We are not allowed to enter the bathroom while customers are in there. If we have to do an emergency knock, we wear our gloves.

We have been told that if we get covid we are 100% off this flight, they won’t send us back.

The CDC has told us that they are testing every single person who gets on the flight, and that everyone needs to test negative in order to get on the next flight. We are given a letter to give to them, so they know we are part of the flight and have been tested.

They want everyone tested so if someone does get covid, they will know exactly where it came from, so they can track the spread of the virus.

We are told if we see anyone not following the rules, we are to call the flight attendants monitor and report it. They will come on the aircraft and speak to the customer.

We are not allowed to speak to the customers about anything covid related, we’re told to just focus on following our protocol and the CDCs protocol.

We are allowed to speak with the customers, we have been doing this since March, this is our lifeline to the outside world and we talk to them because we want to know what life is like right now. We’ve been gone since last March and miss everything and everyone. We are told as long as we’re not discussing anything Covid we’re fine.

We are not allowed to go to the flight deck, we are not allowed to speak to the pilots. We are not allowed to use the intercom.

Each customer is screened before they are allowed to get on the flight, this includes a temperature check and a questionnaire to ensure they have tested negative.

We have been given information on where each customer is traveling from, where they are going to, how long they will be gone and if they’ve been tested. We are told this is so if someone does get covid we can track where it came from.

We have been told to keep our distance from the customers, we’re not allowed to sit next to them.

Each customer is given a survey to fill out at the end of the flight and they are asked to submit their swab results.

This is the information we’ve been given so far, I hope we’re doing everything we need to be.
