I got told to leave all my money in the hotel room while travelling in India.

I decided to follow this advice. When it came time to pay for a meal, I had no money with me. I went back to my hotel to grab cash. I knocked and shouted through the door that it was me, but the staff had locked me out. I had to call the police to get in. I think the only reason they opened the door was because they realised it was the hotel manager, but the staff were super shaken and obviously very embarrassed.

I was told to not carry any money with me when in India.
