The worst things I've seen when travelling

Every trip I go on I'm shocked at something. Here are the worst things I've seen so far

****Overpacking**

I see so many people bring huge suitcases on their holidays and I just don't get it. I'm not a super light packer but I only bring the essentials. I saw this girl on my flight to Australia had a checked bag, cabin bag, handbag and purse. She had brought nearly every outfit she owned and if they didn't work together then she could just wear them separately. When we landed she then bought another 11kg of shopping.

****Dirty airports**

I saw this video of Dubai airport which was disgusting with filth everywhere and there was a rat on the food court.

****Dirty tourist areas**

Bangkok has the dirtiest streets I've ever seen. There's a big sign saying no littering but nobody enforces it. The whole of Khao San Road is littered and there are dirty nappies everywhere. I also saw a guy take a wee on the street.

****Filthy cruise ships**

I saw a video of a sink with black stuff in it and when someone scraped it off, it was filled with mould.

****Tipping culture**

I've been to America twice and both times I struggle with the tipping culture. Everywhere you go you have to tip people 15-20% and sometimes even more if they bring you something to drink. On my second time in New York I went on a flight, then a bus to JFK and then took an Uber to my friend's house. The total came to $100 for a 20 mile drive and he demanded $20 tip.

****Tourists who break the rules**

This is the complete opposite I guess. I'm always shocked by how many tourists break the rules. In Japan they flush the toilet 12 times after doing their business. In Italy they litter everywhere and pee in the fountains. In Thailand they go in groups into tiny clothing stores and try things on, then leave with the clothes.

****Airport security in the Middle East**

I'm not sure why they need to screen your whole body. The machines are super invasive and there's a big sign that says they're looking for drugs but I'm sure it's just to make sure women aren't wearing a bra.

****Tourists who ignore local customs**

I went to a restaurant in Saudi Arabia and there were signs up saying no phone use at tables, no leaving tables, no standing etc. Some guy stood up and started filming the food. The staff went over and confiscated his phone. I also saw a guy take a video of his meal and the staff came over again.

****Airport security in the US**

I've been screened so many times in the US. Not only do you go through security at the airport but then you also get screened when entering the country. It's super invasive and then you have to do it all again when you leave the country.

****Dirty hostels**

I saw a video of a hostel in Thailand that was disgusting. The bed sheets were dirty, there was no toilet paper, the toilet was blocked and the bathroom was dirty.

****Dirty cities**

New Orleans is the filthiest city I've ever seen. The streets are filthy and littered and there's dog shit everywhere. It reeks of weed and you can't walk down the street without someone trying to sell you something or asking for money.

****Tipping on pre-paid meals**

On my flight to Australia I had pre-paid for my meals but still had to tip 10% after.

****Airport food prices in the Middle East**

I got to Dubai airport at 3am and went to a restaurant. The meal was $35 and I had to pay with credit card.

****Dirty planes**

The planes in economy are so disgusting. The seat covers are filthy, the tray tables are dirty and the headrests are disgusting.

****Dirty streets**

I saw a video of Dubai street and it was disgusting. The whole street was littered with dirty nappies.

****Tourists who ignore COVID restrictions**

I'm sure this will sound harsh but I hate tourists who don't follow COVID restrictions. In Australia we were allowed out once a day for exercise so I could only go shopping once a week. I had to book a time slot and then go to the store. In Italy they had to wear a mask outdoors and follow social distancing. So many tourists were sitting at outdoor restaurants close to each other and no masks.

****Dirty restaurants**

I went to a restaurant in Italy that was super dirty. The staff had dirty gloves on, the tables were sticky and the bathroom had no toilet paper.

****Overpriced tourist areas**

I've noticed that everywhere in tourist areas is overpriced. In Japan the toilet paper is 2 dollars a sheet. In Italy you pay 50 cents to use the bathroom. In Thailand the water is overpriced and dirty.

****Dirty public toilets**

The public toilets in Japan are so clean but everywhere else is disgusting. I had to wash my hands with hand sanitizer in some toilets as there was no running water.

****Dirty public places**

In Bangkok I went to a park and it was disgusting. The bins were overflowing and there were dirty nappies everywhere. I also saw a guy take a wee in the corner.

****Dirty tourist areas**

Bangkok has the dirtiest streets I've ever seen. There's a big sign saying no littering but nobody enforces it.
