Just had an incredible experience with AirBnB customer support. Has anyone else had something like this?

I’m a pretty experienced traveler, and I’ve never had an experience like this.

I’ve been renting an apartment through AirBnB for two weeks while I’m in Spain for work. The owner and the apartment have both been amazing.

The apartment is in a newer part of the city. It’s not in the “historic center”, and it’s not close to my office. I didn’t care because I have a car, and I figured it would be easier to park.

The first week was fine. But yesterday, I got a notification from the local government that I had an unpaid parking fine. I didn’t know anything about it, so I called the city and tried to sort it out. I was told I had to go to the town hall and pay in person. They gave me the details on how to get there, what time I should go, etc.

I went to the town hall this morning and paid the fine. But when I got home and checked my email, I saw that the owner of the apartment had been in touch with AirBnB. He told them that I had been “causing trouble” and that he wanted me to leave immediately.

I was shocked, obviously. I reached out to him and asked what was going on. He told me that he was just trying to protect himself. He said that he had gotten a notice from the city that I had broken some internal building code, and that he was worried that he would get in trouble for it.

I explained to him what had happened with the parking ticket. I offered to pay whatever fine he had incurred. I asked if there was anything else I could do. He just replied “I’m sorry, you need to leave.”

I reached out to AirBnB and told them what had happened. They were super apologetic, and they told me that they would refund me for the entire stay.

I was pretty upset, obviously. I’m not happy about having to move twice. But I’m so impressed by how AirBnB handled it. They could have taken the owner’s side and left me to deal with it. Instead, they told me that I could extend my stay in a different apartment at the same price. They’re also sending me a refund.

I just wanted to share the experience because I think it shows the kind of company AirBnB is. I’ve had mixed experiences with them in the past, but this one really impressed me.
