Why are so many Americans going to Central America instead of Europe?

I’ve noticed a huge amount of American tourists are going to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, etc. I get that it’s cheap but what’s the point of Central America when there are so many beautiful European countries to visit? I understand that it’s easier for Americans to get to Central America but that’s also because they are part of the US and have much more influence in Latin America than other parts of the world.
