Why is it so hard to make a website that allows users to upload images?

I want to create a simple website that allows users to upload images, and for them to view each other’s images. Sounds easy, right? No, it’s not. I want to avoid using any of the following: 1) Discord 2) Instagram 3) WordPress. <br><br>I’ve spent the last 4 days reading about it, and I’m still so confused. There’s so many different frameworks and platforms and languages, it’s overwhelming. I’ve tried to use WordPress, and it’s terrible, and I don’t know how it’s so popular. I’ve tried to use Discord, and it’s also terrible. I want to just use html, css and a simple database, but I can’t even figure out where to start with that.<br><br>I’ve come to the conclusion that what I’m looking for doesn’t exist, and I’m just going to have to make it myself. But I’m not sure where to start, or what to make. Do I make a chambers bot? A front end website? A back end server? I don’t know. I’m just a dumb hobbyist, I don’t know anything. <br><br>Can someone please point me in the right direction? Or tell me how they did it?<br><br>I’m using python btw, because I think it’s one of the easiest to learn.
