Hi,

My wife is due to give birth to our first child in the morning. I'm very excited to meet our son, however when we discussed with her mother the birth arrangements, she said that my wife had told her that she wants her mother there when she gives birth, not me, and that she wants the birth partner to be able to cut the cord. My wife didn't even tell or discuss this with me. I was obviously very hurt by this, as I have always felt that this should be both of us, and that this should be a joint decision. My wife won't speak to me and is refusing to discuss why she has made this decision without telling me.

I feel that this seems like a huge indication of deep problems in a relationship, where one person can just make a decision like this without ever even discussing it with the other person, and not even feeling the need to give a reason for it.

Is my concern justified? Should I be concerned about our relationship?

TL;DR: Wife doesn't want me in the birthing room when our son is due.
