My girlfriend has lost a lot of hair since I’ve known her

I am worried about it.

I am worried because I’m considering proposing to her in the next few months and her hair is a very big part of her identity. She is a teacher and hair is basically all she uses to express herself in the classroom.

She is relatively young (22) and otherwise healthy.

I’m not in love with her yet, but I really like her and am considering proposing because we have so much in common and we have had some really amazing experiences together.

But I’m having trouble imagining asking her to commit to me when I know that in a few years she won’t have any hair left. I can imagine her feeling so self conscious about it when we are together, and me not wanting to touch her head, and having to get special seats made for the school bus, and not being able to give her the kind of wedding she would want.

She has told me it is caused by autoimmune hair loss (although some of it could be from stressors in her life). I am worried about her quality of life, but I’m not sure if I should ask her to commit to living with that for the rest of her life.
