I (23F) mistakenly thought my bf (24M) was proposing to me but it was a coincidence. How do I tell him I wanted him to propose?

I really wanted to title this post as "my boyfriend (24m) did everything right and I (23f) didn't expect this but it was a little disappointing at the same time"<br><br>&#x200B;<br><br>My bf proposed to me. Or so I thought. He made a reservation for a private room at a nice restaurant, bought a rose for me and when we sat down, he got on one knee and showed me a ring and told me how much he loved me, and I would be his forever, and he wanted to spend his life with me. Then he stood up, and I started freaking out asking if he was joking, if he got down on one knee, but he kept telling me that he didn't have the ring yet, so it would be funny if I thought he was proposing but it wasn't. He bought the ring box from Walmart, and my diamond ring (fake one though), from Aldi and Target respectively. <br><br>I was a little disappointed and sad because I was expecting him to propose to me, but I guess it isn't the right time to get married because we aren't there yet. I wanted to talk to him about this but I don't want to make him feel bad or embarrassed. How should I bring this up with him?<br><br>Update: he asked me to marry him again last night. And this time, he actually did it. He got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him, and I said yes!
