Is the world an illusion? What does it even mean?

I've been reading a lot about the world being an illusion lately, especially with the whole Simulation theory, and I was just wondering if it makes sense to talk about it in any way.

Let me start by saying that I think it's pretty safe to say that we, as a human brain, experience the world in a very specific way. We can only perceive certain frequencies of light as color, certain sounds as noise, and we can't even remember things without a slight distortion.

So my question is: Is there such thing as an objective reality out there, or is it just an illusion? What do we even mean when we say "illusion" in this context? And what does that mean for our understanding of the world and our lives in it?

The reason I'm asking is that if the world we see is an illusion, how can we trust our senses to guide us to the right conclusions about it?

I don't have any answers, but I'd like to hear your opinions on this, thank you in advance.
