Can you really love someone if you don't know them?

This is a topic I've thought about a lot, especially when it comes to how I feel about my daughter. I didn't know my wife at all before she met me, but I fell in love with her quickly after we met and she did the same. I love her very much. But the question remains: can you truly love someone if you don't know them? This is something that I'm not sure about. I know I feel the same about my daughter. I love her very much and would give my life for her, but I didn't know her until after she was born.

So, does love require prior knowledge of a person before you can say you love them?
