Is it morally acceptable to save your cat over your family?

I think this is more of a rhetorical question because of course most of you would do anything to save your cat. I know I would. I know I can be a little overbearing about my cat, but I don’t think that is wrong. I think that your pets are a part of your family. I’d burn all my money and never work again if it meant my cat was happy.

But I am a little torn about this. I know it seems selfish and materialistic, but it seems that if I love my cat and would do anything to make sure he is happy and safe, then that is morally acceptable, right?
