The current state of philosophy seems to be a farce, and I want to know why people defend it.

I don’t know if I’m just having a bad day but I’m really fed up with philosophy and it seems like no one is even noticing that something’s off.

I’ve been looking into the work of the modern philosophers and the best that they can offer is just an interpretation of a quote that they took out of context. There’s nothing of substance in the stuff that they’re coming up with. I’ve read their entire works, from the ancient greeks all the way up to the current generation of philosophers, and none of them are saying anything meaningful.

I don’t want to pick on a particular philosopher because I don’t want to be a jerk. But if you go to /c/SamHarris, you’ll find that his work is completely lacking. His podcast guests all give the same answer to the same questions every single time, which is just a bunch of meaningless nonsense. It’s like he’s just trying to make money off of people who are too gullible to think for themselves.

The same thing can be said about all of the modern philosophers, not just Sam Harris. There’s nothing to be learned from any of them. They all say the same things, over and over and over again, and it’s just not interesting anymore.

I think part of the problem is that people have forgotten how to think for themselves. They just want to listen to someone tell them what to believe, and they’re willing to believe anything as long as it sounds good. And if it sounds good, it must be true, right? That’s why all of these modern philosophers have such a huge following. They’re just good at marketing themselves as authorities.

The other part of the problem is that people don’t want to question authority. They just want to follow what someone else has already figured out for them. And if you try to challenge their beliefs, they’ll just call you a skeptic. A skeptic is someone who questions everything, but people who follow modern philosophy don’t want to question anything. They just want to follow what’s been figured out for them. And if you try to challenge their beliefs, they’ll just call you a skeptic and dismiss you.

I think it’s time for us to take a step back and think about what we’re doing. We don’t need modern philosophers telling us what to believe. We should be questioning everything and coming up with our own beliefs based on our own research. That’s the way that we’re going to get anywhere.

I hope this makes sense and that someone can give me a good reason for defending this field.
