The truth is out there, but who cares?

In the face of a possible alien civilisation, the reaction seems to be one of apathy, as if we are in some way responsible for the actions of the entirety of human civilisation. We can't do anything to stop the destruction of the planet, the loss of biodiversity and the continuation of wars. We are nothing more than sheep following the herd. It doesn't matter what we think, as we will never be able to stop the course of the actions of humanity. What would the aliens even want from us, when they see that our existence is nothing more than a temporary blip on the radar of time? Is the truth out there, but nobody cares anymore?
