The amount of people who would sacrifice their freedom for the illusion of safety is astounding.

In the last month, I've seen so many people who cheer for a police state, who cheer for their civil rights being stripped. It's honestly insane and so scary. People don't realize the police have been used as a tool to repress minorities for centuries, that the people who will be targeted and repressed under a police state are not the people you, the people cheering for the police state, are friends with or associate with. It's straight white people who are calling for the downfall of democracy, and it's straight white people who will be first targeted by the police state.

And even if the police state could deliver 100% safety, it's not worth it for the loss of your freedom. Freedom is priceless. The greek philosophers knew this, you're not going to create an utopian society where everyone is content and happy through force and control, you have to give people freedom to pursue happiness. But nobody seems to remember this.
