Is the existence of humanity in space a good or bad thing for the universe in general?

Humanity is becoming an interplanetary species. We have people living on the moon now, and soon we’ll be sending humans to Mars. Eventually we’ll set up colonies. I think the existence of humanity in space could be a good thing for the universe, but it could also be a bad thing. What are your thoughts?
