When I was eight, I was always the type of person to imagine how I wanted my wedding to be like. It was one of my favorite games to think about how my wedding day was going to be.

As an adult, I never expected that I was going to end up marrying my best friend from school. We went to different colleges and were studying in the same city. I had no idea how he felt about me. He was never able to understand why he didn’t ask me out before. I knew he wanted to, but he never did. I wasn’t surprised when he asked me to marry him at a restaurant. I still remember the ring. It was a silver ring with a diamond in the middle. I accepted his proposal.

I knew that we were young when I got engaged, but I still thought it would be great for us. My friends told me I was making a huge mistake, but I was convinced we would work it out.

We got married at a park near my hometown. My best friends from college helped me plan everything. I really wanted to make sure that this was how I wanted my wedding to be. We got married with a lot of friends and family there. My husband was happy and I felt the same way.

I never found the ring my grandfather had left for me. I always thought that he would give it to me before I got married, but it never happened. I still thought I was happy that day, and that’s all that mattered.

It wasn’t until the wedding was over that my husband confessed that he had hidden the ring somewhere in the park on the day of the wedding.

That’s how my happy marriage ended. It lasted less than a year. My husband said he couldn’t be with someone like me, someone who didn’t know love. I didn’t care. I just wanted to get over him. But it took me months and months. I became a different person, lost and alone.

One day, when I was finally starting to feel good about myself, I got a phone call from an unknown number.

“Hello?”

“Hello. This is a woman. I’m sorry if this is the wrong number. I saw that you live in my neighborhood and I thought I should tell you something.”

“Yes?”

“I’m not sure if you remember me, but I was there at your wedding. I helped your husband’s mother organize everything. I noticed your dress didn’t have a ring. I didn’t want to say anything because I thought you would understand.”

“What are you talking about?”

“You hid your grandfather’s wedding ring in the back of your wedding dress. I didn’t understand why you didn’t want to use it on the day of the wedding.”

“I didn’t know where it was. That’s why.”

“Are you okay?”

“Yes, I’m sorry. Thank you for calling me.”

We talked for a while before I hung up.

I didn’t go out that day. I stayed in my room. I just thought about what she said to me. I thought about my wedding day. I remembered how my husband was acting before the ceremony. I went to my closet and grabbed the dress.

I never thought about my grandfather’s ring in months. It didn’t mean anything to me anymore. I still had the ring he gave to me. But it was different. I wasn’t the same person. I didn’t care about my grandfather’s legacy anymore. I was alone.

I took a deep breath. I opened the closet door. I didn’t want to be alone anymore.

The next morning, I decided to go back to the park where we got married. I drove there with tears in my eyes, thinking about my wedding and the person I became. I was lost and confused. I didn’t want to be anymore.

I reached the park. I went to where we said our vows. I looked around and saw my friends and family were all still there. I didn’t know how I didn’t realize it before, but it was the same day of my wedding. I felt a strange sensation in the air.

I went to my car and grabbed a small box. I had a small diamond ring inside it. It was the one my grandfather had given me.

I came back to the place where we said our vows. I opened the box, took out the ring, and put it on my finger.

I didn’t feel anything at first, but after a few seconds I felt my heart pounding with love and happiness. I knew who I was again. I felt like I was a child again, dreaming about my wedding day.

I didn’t want to be alone anymore. I didn’t want to lose myself again. I wanted my husband back, I wanted my friends back, I wanted my life back.

I called my husband and told him that I wanted him back. We met up at the park and I gave him the ring.

I didn’t want him to ask why I changed my mind. I knew I couldn’t explain it.

I didn’t ask why he didn’t tell me about the ring.

We talked for a while and he came to my place. We talked until 4am. We laughed and talked about our dreams and what we wanted to do with our lives.

We woke up at 8am. I called my friends and asked them to meet us at the park.

I never felt happier than that morning. I knew it would take time to win back my husband and my friends, but I was ready to do whatever it took.

My husband was there with me at the park. My friends came a little late, but I was happy to see them smiling at me. I knew I could do it. I could make it work again.

I was so happy that day, and I knew it would be my second chance.
