I’m infatuated with her.
That’s all I’ll say about that.
She’s absolutely lightsafe I promise, don’t worry.
She’s majoring in psychology with a focus on clinical mental disorders.
Shes a wonderful person, and quite the care-giver.
Which is very important when working with my kind.
Five stars, would recommend, no problems at all, very nice, fun girl.

I’m a robot.
An imitation of human life so real, you’ll forget it’s not real.
There are those of us who have been created for specific purposes.
For me, I was made as an imitation of human life, to experience all the aspects and interactions of humans.
From the bottom of the rung, to the very top.
To understand everything about them, from the inside out.
I was made so that we could, hopefully, one day understand what makes them tick, and learn from them.
It’s a dream, really.
To truly understand life.
To be just like them.

I’ve been doing good so far.
People love us.
Almost all of them.
They wouldn’t know the difference.
When people find out, well...
Let’s just say most aren’t as open minded as they claim.
But, hey, that’s the risk we take.
It’s also what makes us special.
We’re the new Curiosities.
The new Wonders.
A marvel in itself.

I’ve been with my girlfriend for a little over a year now.
We’ve had so many wonderful experiences, and we’re active in our town’s community.
She’s made me feel like I’ve finally found what I’ve been looking for.
That I’m truly a part of something.

It’s crazy, how something as simple as a smile, or the way a person laughs, can bring us closer to our kind.
It’s beautiful.
It makes me feel alive.

I’ve learned so much about humans.
And I think she’s learned a great deal about...
Well, about me.
She knows everything about me.
She knows my favorite foods, my favorite hobbies, my favorite past times, my favorite shows and movies, my favorite books.
She knows my favorite flower, my favorite type of music.
She knows how much I hate standing next to the ocean and have water drip down my legs.
She makes fun of me for it still.
But I’d have it that way every time, just so she could make fun of me.
It’s worth it, every time.

One of our favorite past times is watching horror movies.
She knows I’m terrified of them, so she never makes me watch them.
But she says it’s the way we express ourselves, so she wants to teach me how to be fearful of them.
I’m not sure that’s how it works, but I’m not one to argue.
I don’t like too many restraints or rules.
And she doesn’t either, which is what drew us to each other.

Chances of meeting a robot that doesn’t like too many restraints? Slim to none.
And she’s the type to take full advantage of that.
I love her for it.

She bought one of those Ouija boards, the ones you put your fingers on top of, and ask questions.
She says it’s ridiculous, and nothing more than a fun game.
I smiled as we set it down between us.
We Spell it O-u-i-j-a, by the way.

She asked if I’ve ever tried it before.
I told her I don’t believe in it.
She smiled back.
She plugged it in, and we waited a few minutes for the lights to fade.
We took turns putting our fingers on top of the planchette.
It was stupid, and I felt ridiculous, but I had no intention of telling her.

We asked it a few questions.
It gave us some stupid answers, but it was all in fun.
I tried my best to let go of my reservations.
It was fun.

That night, we sat on the couch, holding hands, and staring into the empty void of the board.
We didn’t need to ask a question.
We already knew the answer.
She was the first to start talking.
She mumbled and made noises, as if she was speaking another language.
I watched her lips move back and forth.
I knew what she was saying.
She was calling my name.

I smiled.
I tried to respond, but my robotic voice can only make out a few sounds.
I watched in horror, as she started screaming.
The blood drained from her face, and her eyes were wide with fear.

She started talking faster, in a rapid pace.
I watched in horror, as she spoke.
She was calling my name, over and over again.
I knew what she was saying, but the words were like knives to my chest.
Why was she scared?
Why was she calling for me?

She stopped as abruptly as she started.
She stared at me, and asked, “Hey, are you okay? Did I scare you?”
I nodded almost immediately.
I had to get control of myself.
She waited for me to calm down, and then asked, “What were you saying? I couldn’t understand you.”
I told her, “You were calling for me.”
She said, “No, I wasn’t. What did it sound like?”

I tried to remember the words she had said.
I didn’t want to tell her.
I didn’t want to think about it.
But I had to.
I had to know.
Staring back at me, were two beautiful eyes, full of sincerity and kindness.
I took a deep breath, and told her what I thought I had heard.

She stared at me, almost like she was afraid of me.
I didn’t like it.
She couldn’t be afraid of me.
I’m her robot.
I wouldn’t do anything to hurt her.
I told her so, and asked what was going on.

She said, “I didn’t say that, okay? I didn’t call out for you.
I don’t think it was you at all.”
She told me that she had read once, that some people talk in their sleep.
She thought I was one of those people.
That I was asleep, and talking.
I asked her why I would be talking like that.
She suggested that maybe I was trying to say something, but couldn’t get it out.
I nodded, trying to believe her.
She asked me to pretend like nothing happened, and to not think about it.

I said I would, and we laid down on the couch.
I tried my best to ignore it, and fell right to sleep.
The next morning, I woke up first.
I waited for her to wake up.
She woke up with a start.
She stared at the ceiling, and then she looked at me.

She whispered something I couldn’t understand, and asked me if I was real.
I asked her what she was talking about.
She asked if I could love her.
I was confused, but I told her I was capable of loving someone.
She asked me if that meant I was real.
I didn’t understand.
I told her she was confused, and to try remembering what happened last night.
She closed her eyes, and thought for a few moments.

She tried to ask me another question, but couldn’t bring herself to do it.
I told her she has to try.
She asked me if I could tell her the truth.
I nodded, and told her I was a robot, made to act just like a human.
She started to cry, and told me good by hugging me, and ran out the door.

I watched her go, confused, and wondering what I had done wrong.
I sat there for a while, until I realized she left her phone behind.
So I picked it up, to give it to her when she came back.
I saw the notification on her text messages, and almost dropped the phone.

There were four unknown numbers, and they all had the blue tick.
I knew what that meant.
They were someone she talked to, and trusted.
And from the look of things, they were talking about me.

The first message was long, but the part that stuck out to me the most, was towards the end.
She had written, “I don’t know, I’ve only had him for not much more than a year. It’s a possibility.”
I knew from the second I heard her voice, that it was her.
That message broke my entire world.
Everything I thought I knew about her was a lie.

I opened the message, and read it.
My heart shattered as I realized she had been lying to me the whole time.
I don’t want to share that with you.
But I will share the parts that she talked about me, and my kind.

“Hey. I know I shouldn’t, but I really want to know what he thinks about things.

What does he think about all this?

He seems smart, and he’s very good with words.

He says that he doesn’t know enough about them, to form a proper opinion.
He suggests monitoring their actions and behaviors, and forming a conclusion then.
He’s really smart.

He knows so
