My Wife Keeps Using Our Daughter's Voice.

I first noticed it on the third day after my daughter, Lily went missing.

She was fourteen when she disappeared, and the police were still looking for her.

Her mother, my wife, and I were beside ourselves with worry.

The police were stumped. We'd searched everywhere. We'd been on the news, and even though the tips had been coming in, nothing had come of them yet.

The only bright spot in the last few days was my in-laws. They'd flown in from the city, and had been taking care of everything.

My wife had been a zombie, barely sleeping, barely eating.

I'd tried to comfort her, but I'd been busy as well.

I'd been driving around town, looking for Lily, and making phone calls.

I'd barely slept.

On the third day, I woke up before my wife. I usually got up early to make sure she got something to eat before I went out looking for Lily.

That morning, I got up, and walked to the kitchen to make breakfast.

I'd decided on pancakes.

As I was mixing the batter, I heard my wife get up. She was usually quiet, so I knew she was up.

I turned around and saw her standing in the kitchen doorway.

"Good morning," I said.

She didn't reply.

I waited for her to come into the kitchen and sit down, but she didn't move. She just stood there.

"Sarah, what's wrong?" I said.

She didn't reply.

I stopped mixing the batter and turned to look at her.

She was still silent.

I looked at the pancake batter and then back at her.

I knew she wasn't silent on purpose. Something was wrong.

"Sarah, what's wrong?"

I didn't expect her to answer. I knew she couldn't. But I had to say something. I had to try.

My wife was no longer moving or breathing.

She was frozen in place, her mouth moving.

And then I heard it.

"Lily?"

I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My wife was speaking, but not in her voice.

I froze, stunned.

"Lily?" she said again. "Do you think she's okay?"

She sounded exactly like our daughter, Lily. I was stunned. I didn't know what to do.

"I don't know," I said. "The police haven't found her yet."

"Are you sure it's a kidnapping?"

"I don't know," I said. "I think so, though."

"I don't know what to do," she said.

I stared at her, trying not to believe what I was seeing. She was speaking like Lily, and moving like Lily, and looking like Lily.

"Sarah?" I said. "Sarah, stop."

But she didn't reply. She just kept moving, still talking like our daughter.

She moved into the kitchen, and walked past me to the counter.

"Did you talk to her friends?" she asked.

"Yes," I said.

"But which friends? I don't think she hangs out with anyone suspicious."

I stared at her, not knowing what to do.

"Maybe we should call the police," she said.

"I already did," I said.

"Oh, okay. Well, maybe we should call her friends then."

"I already did that," I said.

"Oh, okay. Well, maybe we should call her teachers," she said.

"I already did that," I said.

"Oh, okay. Well, maybe we should call her friends," she said.

I'd never heard my wife say this before. She always got frustrated with herself after a few tries, and would stop.

But this time she didn't. She kept going, talking like Lily, repeating the same things.

I'd never seen her like this before. She'd never acted this way before.

"Maybe we should go out looking for her," she said. "I bet she's okay."

I stared at her, not knowing what to do.

"I bet she is too," she said.

I took a step closer to her.

"Maybe we should go look for her now," she said.

I looked at her face, trying to make out what she was thinking.

But she was still frozen. She was no longer breathing or moving. She was just standing there, speaking like Lily.

"Maybe we should call her friends now," she said.

I took another step closer to her.

"Maybe we should call her teachers now," she said.

I looked at her mouth, trying to make out what she was saying.

"Maybe we should call the police now," she said.

I stared at her mouth, watching her lips move.

I was stunned. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

"Maybe we should go look for her now," she said.

I stared at her, trying not to believe what I was seeing. She was speaking like Lily, and moving like Lily, and looking like Lily.

"Maybe she's okay," she said.

I stared at her, still stunned.

"Maybe we should go look for her now," she said.

I stared at her, not knowing what to do.

"Maybe she's okay," she said.

I stared at her, still stunned.

She looked like my wife. She sounded like my wife. She even moved like my wife. But she didn't act like my wife. She was acting like Lily.

And she was talking like Lily.

"Maybe we should go look for her now," she said.

I took a step back from her, trying not to believe what I was seeing.

"Maybe she's okay," she said.

I turned away from her, and walked out of the kitchen.

I couldn't believe it. My wife was acting like our daughter.

I went back to bed, unable to believe what I was seeing. My wife was acting like our daughter.

I couldn't believe it.

But when I woke up, she was back to normal.

I thought it had been a dream.

But it hadn't been. She'd actually done it.

And now it was happening again.

---

*Update:*

Thank you for your replies. I have to tell you that they've really helped me. It started again about an hour ago, and hasn't stopped. I've been trying to get her to snap out of it, but nothing's working. I don't know what to do.

She's still walking around the house, and talking to herself like Lily. And she's still talking about Lily.

She's been talking about how she hopes Lily is okay. She's been talking about how she wishes she knew where Lily was. She's been talking about how she wants to find Lily. And she's been talking about how she hopes Lily's okay.

I've been trying to snap her out of it, but nothing's working.
