I've always wondered about the origins of the "man upstairs" term. Was it really inspired by Hitler?

I'm a Christian, and one of my favorite terms is "man upstairs." I think it's a cute and non-religious way of referring to God. <br><br>I've always wondered if this term originated with the Holocaust and the term was used as a way to express disbelief in God's existence.
