Genghis Khan and the Mongols were NOT barbaric marauders. They were a highly organized empire who used terror as a tool to maintain a peaceful empire

You often hear the Mongols were mindless thugs who set fire to cities and killed everyone. But they weren't. While they did wage war, they were a well organized empire. Their goal wasn't conquest for conquest's sake, but to protect their people.

They had a highly organized army and postal system. They were very tolerant towards other people's beliefs and cultures. They allowed local leaders to govern their territories as long as taxes were paid and laws and traditions weren't altered. They collected taxes in silver and gold instead of land, which allowed trade to flourish.

The Mongols were only terroristic towards those who didn't give them tribute, opposed them or fought them, like other empires.
