How would you feel if you found out you were actually a child of the holocaust, but your whole family perished in the Holocaust? I found out a few months ago

Hi all,

I recently had my DNA tested. I have always known that I was adopted. My parents never told me much about my birth family. They did tell me I was born in the US and that my biological parents were also from the US.

The DNA results came back and I was a surprise match for a 3rd cousin from Eastern Europe. We messaged each other and it turned out we were a match through our maternal line. Turns out my bio-mom was from Eastern Europe. We got in touch with a few other matches in that same line, and they were all from the same country. I learned that my bio mom was from Poland.

I then got in touch with a few Poland-based genealogists, who reviewed my tree and DNA results and determined that I am likely a child of a Holocaust survivor. They pointed out that: my great-great-grandmother died in the 1940s in a city that was occupied by the Germans (which fits with what I know about the Holocaust), and one of my distant relatives was a known Holocaust survivor who died in 1950s Poland. They think I am the daughter of one of the children of that survivor, and that the child died in the Holocaust.

I have always felt like I didn't quite fit in with my family. I don't know if it is because of my bio status, but I always felt like the "other" person in the family. And now I know I am literally the "other" person. I have no known relatives from my father's side, and no known living relatives on my mother's side, and my entire family on my mother's side died in the Holocaust. I feel like a piece of me has been erased from the planet. I am just trying to come to terms with it. It feels like my whole identity is gone.

I don't know what to do with myself. I have been reading and researching and trying to learn as much as I can. I am considering going to Poland to see where my family lived and what I can learn from there.
