I can’t imagine being a soldier during WWI

Imagine being in trenches that are like a 100 feet below the ground level.

You are wet, dirty, hungry, cold, and tired. You are constantly scared to be killed. The smell of the dead bodies is so bad, that you feel like you are going to throw up. You are in a hole, and can’t see more than a few feet in front of you. You have to walk a wire, and be afraid that you are going to be cut to shreds by a machine gun.

You hear the artillery shooting above you. You know that soldiers on the other side are going through the same things you are. It’s like a never ending nightmare.

Now, multiply the fear of death by 100. Now you are in a war where your enemies are going to fight you to the death.

You are a young kid, and you are fighting a war that you don’t understand. You don’t know why you are there. You are just told to go.

You see your friends getting killed. You hear the sound of guns going off. You know that your friends are going to die. You could be next.

The generals are telling you to go out and walk across a field, so you can be mowed down by machine guns. You know that you are going to die, but you can’t do anything about it.

The war is going to last 4 years, and it’s not going anywhere. You are going to be stuck in that hole for years.

Imagine being a kid, and being stuck in that situation. I can’t even imagine how scary it must’ve been.
