Why are people so obsessed with the “hate guns” narrative?

Why do so many people who advocate for the complete abolition of guns care so little about self defense? <br><br>I’m a gun owner. I own one for self defense. I hope I never have to use it. But I will nonetheless. <br><br>I don’t go around screaming “I hope you all get gunned down and die” while advocating that people carry. Why do anti-gun advocates always assume gun owners want other people to die in violent crimes? Why do they assume gun owners never plan on using it for defense, and that we just want to see innocent people die because we think it makes us feel powerful?
