My GF is upset I haven’t bought her a gun. Thoughts?

My GF (let’s call her Kasia) and I have been together for a year and two months. We live in Illinois, so guns are a thing out here. I’ve owned a Glock 27 and a Ruger Mini 15 for most of the time we’ve been together. I take both to work everyday and keep them in my car and desk. <br><br>I’ve always known she liked the idea of guns but never considered shooting. I didn’t push it. <br><br>This all changed over Christmas break when we went to her parents house. Her father shot her mom and himself after getting into a fight. I believe they’re still in the hospital, and my GF is not the same. She’s not really talking, and she’s barely leaving the bedroom. I’ve asked her if she wants to go shoot something, since maybe that could help. She lives the idea but has admitted she’s scared. <br><br>This all happened about two weeks ago, and she said something that caught me off guard today: “I really would like it if you bought me a gun.” <br><br>This caught me off guard because I have no idea the first thing about gun selection for a new shooter. I’ve only owned a few guns so I don’t know much. I’ve thought about going to the range with her to see what feels good, but I’m not sure what she’d like or how to choose the best gun for her. I’ve also thought about going to a couple of gun shows to look at guns. Again though, I don’t know what would be best for her, and I’d rather a professional help with that. If I take her to the range, I’d probably just end up buying her a gun and then a different gun for me, which I don’t want to do. <br><br>I’ve thought about taking her to our local gun store, but I’m afraid she’ll end up getting upset because I didn’t buy her the exact gun she wanted. <br><br>I’m not well to do, and my GF isn’t working currently due to her parents accident. I’m just not sure how to buy her a gun, and I want to do it right. Does anyone have any advice on what gun I should get her, and how I should get it? I really appreciate it.
