A rant from a gun owner who doesn’t care about the politics

I’m tired of seeing every time there’s a shooting or some random news about gun violence or guns that people just say “buy a gun, you’ll feel safer”. It’s just like how people say “move to a red/ blue state, you’ll fit right in” and I don’t get why that’s the first thought in people’s heads when they own a firearm.<br><br>I’ll admit I own a firearm and it was a gift from my grandfather. It was a .357 Magnum revolver he made himself. He told me he hopes I will keep it clean and functional for a long time so I keep it that way. My family and friends aren’t gun owners but they’re all accepting of me owning it. It’s a personal item to me and I don’t really think much about it until I see news about guns. I’m not a hunter and I don’t like target shooting. I’m not sure if I’ll pass it down to a kid of mine but I feel like it would mean a lot to my Grandfather if I did.<br><br>I’ve lived in different parts of the country and I’ve always been a little confused as to why some people have such a big problem with gun owners. I don’t care about the politics or laws or anything. I’ve always been under the impression that owning a gun was a right and I’ve never been happier owning it. I know there are gun owners out there who have the same impression as I do and I think that’s great. But why can’t people just be okay with it? I don’t really care if there are a million laws or no laws. I’m not here to break any laws. I don’t want to start a discussion or debate about anything. I just wish people were more accepting of gun owners. I’m not trying to start anything, I’m not here to prove anything, and I don’t want to be told otherwise or criticized or anything.<br><br>It’s just a rant because I’ve always thought owning a gun was a right and I’ve never been more happy with my decision. I wish more people were okay with it. I wish it didn’t come with any politics and I wish people would just be okay with gun owners. That’s it.
