I was in my 70s neighbor's backyard, drinking beers and shooting my gun, and the cops came over.

So my 70 year old neighbor is out of the country right now. I was staying at his house, and his wife gave me a key so I could go in and get some stuff.

I got bored last night and decided to go into his gun safe, and grabbed a nice little Remington bolt action rifle. The 700 ADL in .308. I went out into the back yard, and shot a few rounds in his direction. I was careful to stay in his yard, and didn't shoot towards any roads or neighboring homes.

I go inside, and a few minutes later I hear a bunch of police cars pull up. 5-6 cars worth, I think. I go outside, confused, and 4 cops are standing in my neighbors front yard staring at me. There were two more walking around his back yard.

Cops are telling me to come on over, I walk over there, very confused, and they start telling me to put my hands up, and not to move them. I only have the gun, so I did what they asked.

They start patting me down, and ask if I have any weapons. I tell them about the rifle, and that I was only shooting it in their neighbors yard. They ask me a bunch of questions about where the rifle is, and if I have any ammunition on me, or any more in the house.

They start walking me towards their cars, still telling me not to move my hands, and I'm trying to explain that this is all a huge misunderstanding.

They get to their cars, and start telling me to get in. I tell them I don't think I need to get in any car. I don't believe I've done anything wrong. I haven't even been told I've broken any law. I've only been shooting a rifle, in a safe direction, on private property.

I'm very respectful, and only speaking through my hands still on my waist. They tell me I'm going downtown for questioning, so they could have been arresting me. They may have been, I don't know. I told them I wasn't going anywhere with them.

They get pissed off, and tell me I'm going to get put down on the spot. I'm shocked, and tell them that's not something you can say to me. They start saying "get in the fucking car", and "we'll fucking put you down right now", and I'm still not moving.

They start going around me, like they were going to tackle me, so I move towards them, and get in one of the cars. They jump back, shocked I complied, and ask if anyone has covered all these cars. Someone says yes, and they tell me to get in the back.

I get in the back of one car, and 2-3 get in the back of another. I don't know what happened to the others, maybe they were dispatched somewhere?

I get in the back of this car, and immediately start asking questions. Why am I being arrested? Why are you telling me to get put down? What did I do wrong? I'm very respectful and calm, and just trying to understand why I'm being treated like this. The two cops in the front seat are speaking to each other, but don't answer any of my questions.

I ask if I can call my brother, who lives a couple blocks away. The driver tells me he'll call my brother and let him know I'm at the police station.

I ask if I get to make a phone call, and the driver says yes, but he's going to call my brother for me.

We get to the police station, and they take me out of the car, then back inside. They start taking my fingerprints, and pictures, asking me a bunch of stupid questions, like what my name is. They finally let me call my brother, who then called my dad, who then called the police station.

The cops told my brother that I would be let go, and that this was all just a misunderstanding.

They let me go, after about an hour there, and I'm very shaken up. I still can't really believe what happened. I just don't understand how they thought that was okay.

Sorry if this post is jumbled, I'm still on my morning break at work and trying to type this out on my phone.
