Why is a 308 Winchester less lethal than a 9mm?

I’m not talking about the energy transferred but I’m talking about lethality. <br><br>I can understand the difference in mass and kinetic energy but I can’t understand why a 308 would be less lethal. The bullets are the same caliber, so I don’t understand why one would be more lethal. I understand the bullet is bigger on a 308 but is that the reason?
