Was sitting on a bench at the beach today. Saw a dude with a full tactical suit walk up to his car and grab a long gun. He had a backpack and a plate carrier, which was unusual for this beach. I’m about 10 feet away from this and thought to myself “I hope this isn’t what I think it is.” 5 minutes later he comes walking up to me and my 9 year old daughter, with a handgun and asks to take a picture of us together. I politely declined. He starts talking about gun rights, and the importance of being a good guy with a gun. I told him that I was happy to see an armed good guy, and I hope he doesn’t need his rifle today. He said, “I won’t, I’m just here incase someone else has one.”
He walks away, and about 10 minutes later a dude walks up to the same car and starts to open the door. My gut tells me something is wrong. I jump up and walk over to this car and say “hey! I don’t think you should do that” in my best dad voice. The dude is startled and says “oh! I wasn’t trying to break into your car! I just wanted to ask you a question.” I say “sorry about that. Sure, what is it?” Dude says, “I just wanted to know what brand your shirt is. I really like it and can’t read it.”
I looked at my shirt, and realized it was my old USMC t-shirt. The guy had a very confused look on his face when I told him the brand. I said, “It’s Under Armor”. Dude said, “That’s what I thought! I just can’t read good.” We had a quick conversation, and the dude looked like he was trying to do good.
The whole interaction took 10 seconds, and I’m glad I was paying attention.
