We’ve all heard the story about Amazon being so customer centric that they monitor their product sales in order to guess when you’re running out of toilet paper, so they can send you more. In a way, I feel like it’s very… intrusive, to get exactly what I need before I even need it. I don’t know about you, but I like when products are very bad at anticipating my needs. Like how I always want to open a full bottle of soda because I don’t know if I’ll want to drink it the next day. Or how I like to be able to use an entire roll of toilet paper before I open a new one.

I’ve noticed this especially with baby products, like how my diaper wipes come in small “packs” that need to be replaced after each diaper change. Or how my baby food comes in small serving sizes that I need to rinse and fill each time. It makes me feel like a cash cow, and like a lot of the convenience comes from not having to think about what I’m doing, but just following what’s being told to me.

What product choices do you like to make to ensure that you’re still a bit in control, and that you’re not just a helpless customer being shepherded by Amazon?
