When I was 19 I was living in Scottsdale, Arizona. I was working at a nightclub as a coat checker.

The bar on the other end of our lot was going out of business. They had a liquidator come in to sell off all their bar supplies. All the liquor went to the police for training purposes. I think beer went to a local animal shelter.

Everything else was just tossed in a dumpster behind the bar. One night on my break, I snuck into the dumpster, grabbed two bags, and filled them up with chairs, bottles, and other small things that wouldn’t be noticed. I walked out of the dumpster and carried my bags out of the parking lot.

I went back to work, continued to sneak into the dumpster at the end of every shift, and made out with a sweet $500-$700 every night. After about 6 months of doing this I realized how stupid it was and stopped.

The cops finally caught up with me, and I was arrested. My parents hired a defense attorney, and I got 3 years in prison.

I shared a cell with a dude who ended up killing himself while I was in there. My parents bailed me out after 8 months, but I decided to go back in with him. I didn’t want to leave the guy to die by himself.
