I was in a store when I was a teenager and I saw an older woman crying in the bathroom.

I was about 19. I went to a store with my mom and she needed to use the bathroom. I was waiting for her outside. There was an older woman in her 60s or 70s in the stall next to her. I could hear her sobbing and I knew something was wrong. I guess I just have that mom instinct. I started to knock on the stall to see if she was okay but my mom was taking forever. So I waited a little bit more and she still wasn't out. I started to knock again and then I heard my mom come out of the bathroom. I told her about the lady in the bathroom and I went to look for her. She was gone. I asked someone at the customer service desk if they knew where she was and they told me she had left the store but she left her cart full of items in the parking lot. We were able to track her down and it was a very sad story. She had just learned that day that she had breast cancer. And she was so distraught that she broke down in the bathroom and couldn't get herself together to leave. She was so appreciative of my mom for finding her and taking her back home. I hope that lady is okay today. She's probably been gone for decades now but I still think about her from time to time.
