It was 9:05 pm when I felt it. That weird sensation that I had done something before.

But I could never make sense of it. Or why it happened to me. Every day, just before bed. I felt like I had Déjà Vu.

We had spent the night at a small motel out of town. It was a 7 day thing. A new bed every week. Hopefully it will keep the homeless people out. Was how the manager had said it back when we checked in.

So the morning after we checked in, I set out for work.

I worked at a convenience store on the edge of town, that sold whatever, whenever. I don't really get how it worked. Or why it pays 25 cents an hour, but I’m broke.

I walked into the convenience store, through the shuttered storefront that sat next to the parking lot. Most convenience stores were on a corner of a road. Not this one. Bam, you're here, already in the parking lot. Jump out of your car like a kid on Christmas morning, and voila : convenience.

I had been doing this for years, and I could see the Bam, there was one giant convenience store! Yes, sir!

While walking through the parking lot, I saw a homeless person.

I remember when I was a young child, my mother took me to a city. We were driving through the city, and we saw a homeless man.

"Why is he homeless mommy?" I remember asking.

"Because he's lazy," she said.

I'm not lazy. I work. So clearly, I’m not homeless.

Bam, there was one giant convenience store! Yes, sir!

I walked through the shuttered storefront, and into the store.

Working at a convenience store, you have your regulars.

I like some, but hate others. My favorite regular is a guy who always checks with me if my daughter is okay. He's in his 60s, and may be an alcoholic.

No. I'm not lazy. I went to college, I worked hard, I got a degree.

You can imagine my surprise when the store owner told me that he had to let me go.

That's okay, I thought, I'll find another job.

None of the other jobs would hire me. I had no work experience, I had no connections, I had no comments, I had no job.

Bam, there was one giant convenience store! Yes, sir!

But one day, the convenience store owner, he told me he was going to hire me.

I went to college, I worked hard, I got a degree.

Then my daughter was born. That's okay, I thought, I'll get a job, and I'll work hard.

You can imagine my surprise when the store owner told me that he had to let me go.

That's okay, I thought, I'll find another job.

None of the other jobs would hire me. Yes, sir, the man who always checks in on my daughter.

No. I'm not lazy. I went to college, I worked hard, I got a degree.

The store owner smiled at me as I walked into the Bam, there was one giant convenience store!

"Yes, sir," I said, "I'm here to work."

"Great," he said, handing me a pair of scissors.

"I have a few hours before my shift starts," I said, "I'll cut the grass."

As I walked back out to the parking lot, I noticed something. A black car, parked across from the store, with a man inside.

Why did I notice him? The parking lot had plenty of cars. But there was something about that car.

Bam, there was one giant convenience store! Yes, sir!

Bam, there was one giant convenience store! Yes, sir!

The parking lot had plenty of cars, but something about that car caught my eye.

Over and over and over again, I have Déjà Vu. Every day, just before bed.

That happened when I was 5, that happened when I was 10, that happened when I was 16, and that happened when I was 30. Every day, just before bed. I feel like I’ve done something before.

The Bam, there was one giant convenience store! "It's not safe."

"Oh," I said, "I won't."

"There's a car that's following you," the man said, his voice becoming louder. "Your daughter is in danger."

"My daughter," I said.

"Don't go in there," he said. "It's not safe."

Then he sped away, leaving me standing in the parking lot, alone.

"There's a car that's following you," the man said. "Your daughter is in danger."

That happened before. But now, I know why.

Bam, there was one giant convenience store! Yes, sir!

Bam, there was one giant convenience store! Something was wrong.

As I walked into the Bam, there was one giant convenience store! Yes, sir!

Over and over and over! Bam!

I felt it.
