Strange experience

My friend and I were chatting about how our county has become infested and the lack of anything being done to control it. He said a county representative called him to say they're currently working on a way to kill them that will not harm bees (the only other attempt was unsuccessful as it also killed bees). We both have never met anyone who has been contacted by the county about this issue. I'm a little skeptical about it. I don't recall the representative's name, and my friend has received this call this past winter, and my friend and I also did not see a peak this summer. The first summer I moved here, I saw only a few. It quickly got out of control until the region saw an immediate and drastic drop, and a normal few sighting a year after that. I thought the county was just leaving it up to the residents to get rid of them. I never once heard of the county government doing anything about it. My friend accused me of being a "seed bug". We have our scientific doubts as to what they said. It's just strange that out of nowhere, they decided to call my friend about it. Anyways, if it's true, then great. If it's not, I don't think I'll be the first to break the news to my friend about it.
