Hey!

This post will be long, and a bit personal too. I am from an orthodox Hindu family. My mum has been the coolest person ever. She has supported me for everything and she never judges people. I love her!

Now, I belong to a WhatsApp group where people from Hyderabad discuss science, politics etc with no judgement and biases. I was excited to be a part of a group that discusses everything.

I started seeing lots of judgements and biases in that group, and bear in mind that they call themselves seculars. I won't be shaming anyone but, I am just sharing my experience with them.

A few days ago, one of them posted "We are born to learn, to see, to experience and to grow. Not to blindly follow and stubbornly stay in the mental garb of the past. **You are not responsible for what you don't know or understand, but you are responsible if you refuse to learn & understand.**" A basic enlightenment quote, and a good one at that.

I replied to that post saying "I don't understand why you people keep posting quotes about "blindly following the relics of the past" or "being mum over the injustices and brutalities of the past" and many more.

They just didn't reply to my comment, and moved on to a different topic. I felt like I poked them in their soft spot.

Then, another posted a quote of a guy from 19th century saying India was a "nation of barbarians". I replied to that post, saying "That is a pretty biased opinion, and the HYD Seculars should not agree with this quote. It is like calling all non-Indians Barbarians based on a few violent incidents. Is this what you guys believe in?"

This triggered a lot of them. They started calling me illiterate, saying that I should just shut up because my opinions doesn't matter here etc..

I was just saying my opinions. I never insulted them. They just took this quote to state their vile opinions.

Then, a lot of the group started DMing me saying that they are sick of my stupid comments and that they wanted me out. It was appalling. I never got so much hate for just sharing my opinions.

You guys call yourselves seculars, but I see more hatred and communalism in you that in right wingers. I have been exposed to your reality. You guys are most definitely not seculars or tolerant.

I don't want to be a part of such a group, I am not afraid now to share the real communal state of Hyderabad.
